Healthy weeks in Abyskolan/ Sweden

The Swedish colleagues sent these information about the healthy weeks:

We are in the middle of our second week now.

We have an Option box (made by the students) in the staff room. We have asked all teachers to make a note of "healthy" things they do in the lessons and put the note in the box.

We also started to create a Cook Book in Home Economics with healthy (preferrably Swedish) recipes. See photo of Instruction sheet.

We serve fresh fruit three times a week in the school cafeteria - the students get the fruit for free and it is very appreciated.

Our peer group plans, organizes and buys the fruit themselves.

A part of our group has started to plan the presentation film we´ll bring to Düsseldorf.

Optionbox Moers/ Germany

The school in Moers developed the option box for the healthy weeks.

Realschule am Jungbornpark Moers: Today we had our project day

A good chance to do some Comenius activities.

Unfortunately we had some problems with the puls watches.
They did not give exact datas, when they gave some at all!
Not sure what to do now?

In a short-run I decided to do with them the "Münchner Fitnesstest",
a test for children from age 10-17 developed by sport scientists.
Some of you might know the test...(please see attachments).

In my view, it is a good test that measures mainly kondition and koordination. It gives the children a clear idea about the sports abilities and their own strenght and weakness through an evaluated questionaire.

Also, in regard to our project, we extended and started  the topic "Fitness" during our regular classes, and did a first run of the Münchner Fitnesstest.

So, the experience is: they have fun, Comenius-members can become experts for schoolmates in that field and we can work on their specific needs.

Press presentation Freiherr-vom-Stein-Realschule Düsseldorf

Today we had a big public presentation of our project: representatives from the city, from our external partners and of course journalist from newspapers, from a tv-station and from different websites were present. See the results on the press page >>>

Short summary of the first term of Improve Your Move

Summer of 2011:
Participating schools get their application approvals.
It turns out that only 4 schools – Åbyskolan Gamleby, Realschule am Jungbornpark Moers, Städtische Freiherr-vom-Stein-Realschule Düsseldorf and Hauptschule Krems – were approved.
September 2011:
Website ”improveyourmove.org” launched – by Norbert – and is continuously updated.
Peer groups ( app. 25 students per school) of the different schools appointed.
Norbert also created an Internes site where we can put and share information.
October 201
First meeting of coordinators in Gamleby. We made double plans, one containing the Coolaskola-program and one without. The reason for this was that we, at that point, didn´t know if a translation into English was possible.
We decided to form a Facebook group – Monika took on the responsibility for this.
Roswitha created our own IYM-logotype.
Facebook group – ”Improve Your Move” – is formed and currently in use.
November 2011:
A 4-week pedometer walk started in the middle of the month. Each peer group started its trip from its own school and towards the other three and then hopefully back again. On our website Norbert put a map over Europe where our common route is placed.

We started the step-tests. The results of the step-tests will be registered when the students do the Coolaskola questionnaire.

The translation of the Coolaskola questionnaire into English is finished by Mrs. Perk.
We agreed to split the cost of the programming of the actual computer program into English.
December 2011:
On the 19th we had our first Skype conference. The Swedish students sent – in advance - out questions to be discussed during the conference.
Unfortunately we had some technical problems and decided to let the students carry on themselves later on.
All students are to put their Facebook addresses on our common Facebook group and from there on get in contact with each other on Skype.
